The songs of the movie were composed by Anu Malik. Initially, A. R. Rahman was signed in to compose the film's music,[12] but for reasons unknown, he opted out. Malik stepped in to compose the songs, while Sandeep Chowta was brought on board to for the background score. Gulzar wrote the lyrics for five songs, while one song was written by Anand Bakshi ("San Sanana"). The soundtrack was very successful and according to the Indian trade website Box Office India, with around 15,00,000 units sold, the album was the year's one of the highest-selling.[13]

The portrayal of Asoka in the film proved controversial in India.[23] "Shahrukh's Asoka is all bluster and mannerism, with no depth. Except for the nosebleeds and the mudbaths, he is the same Shahrukh of every other movie that he has acted in. The film leaves its many complex moments unexplored and disjointed, choosing to pitch it as a love story instead of an epic tale of war and peace," an Indian reviewer wrote.[24]

The title "Heroes on Both Sides" is a reference to the opening crawl of the film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, which stated "There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere." The final title came during the episode's production: its original title was "Banking Conspiracy."[1]

Although typecast as the quintessential romantic hero, Khan started his career as an anti-hero, and a few of his earlier movies that are rated high by IMDb saw him in a negative avatar. It was the movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that kicked off his journey as a romantic hero, earning him tags such as "The King of Romance," making him one of the richest actors in the world, bigger than some of his Hollywood counterparts, and undoubtedly the biggest Indian superstar of his generation.

Updated on July 11th, 2022 by Jom Elauria: After the widespread critical acclaim and commercial success of the Telugu-language film RRR, lots of viewers are interested in knowing more about the legends in Indian cinema, such as Shah Rukh Khan, who is most known by his moniker "King of Bollywood". From the epic romance film Devdas to the sports drama film Hey Ram, SRK's best movies showcase the diverse and impressive acting prowess of the Indian actor.

The family drama movie was a box office hit. However, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... has received mixed reviews from film critics, with most saying that the movie was too long and the script was not as great as they expected.

The movie has received international acclaim for touching on political events and featuring a sad ending. Shah Rukh's performance in the film has also been praised as he was able to excellently portray a torn, but heroic, character.

Ajay grows close to Chopra's older daughter, Seema, who he ends up killing to set the ball rolling for his elaborate charade. He then changes his name and seduces Chopra's younger daughter, Priya, who immediately falls for him and he with her. However, he continues to win over Madan Chopra, who remains blissfully unaware of his real identity, his endgame being to take back everything his father had lost all those years ago. Khan plays a cold-blooded killer in the movie, in another anti-hero role after the film, Darr.

A romantic comedy in which Khan plays a boy with slightly questionable morals who wouldn't shy away from lying through his teeth if it suited his purpose. The '90s coming-of-age film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na isn't as well known as some of Khan's other movies, but it remains a fan favorite nonetheless.

Kal Ho Na Ho is a devastating movie that viewers should watch if they feel like wallowing. In the film, the sprightly Aman falls in love with a young woman, Naina, but he cannot tell her how he feels, knowing well that he might die soon, as he suffers from a severe heart condition. He then puts all his energy into bringing Naina together with Rohit, a friend of hers who is also in love with her.

Phenomenally popular and possibly the most beloved of Shah Rukh's movies is this simple love story of two-second generation Indians born and brought up in England. The '90s romance film was released globally and became one of the first to sweep worldwide audiences off their feet.

Mangal Pandey: The Rising brilliantly portrayed the life of the titular hero and his heroic actions that almost overthrew the British Raj. Mangal Pandey: The Rising received positive reviews and is one of the few Indian movies to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film is set in 2016 BC and is basically a love story between a farmer and a high-status girl in the Indus Valley Civilization. There are very few movies set in that era, and though Mohenjo Daro was a box office failure, it is still a must-watch for any history buff.

The 1970 film Mera Naam Joker might be regarded now as a cult classic, one that is even among the finest works of the legendary Raj Kapoor. But back when it released Mera Naam Joker found few takers, primarily because of its exerting length and plot, turning therefore into one of the most shocking flop movies dished out by Bollywood. Over the years however, Mera Naam Joker rose from ridicule to become among the more underrated Bollywood movies. But at the time of its release the film was a critical and commercial failure. An extensively conceived film that was under production for six years, Mera Naam Joker led Raj Kapoor to a huge financial crisis. With Kapoor investing much of his personal fortune in the making of the film, the commercial disaster that ensued meant that all the assets of the filmmaker were mortgaged.

A 1991 fantasy superhero film, Ajooba brought together the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia and Amrish Puri. But still the Shashi Kapoor directorial emerged to be one of the flop Bollywood movies that failed to garner even half of its budget in earnings. An Indo- Soviet collaboration, Ajooba however was a commercial successful in Russia unlike India. But the huge losses in Bollywood forced producer Kapoor to shut down his production house after the failure.

Another Amitabh Bachchan starrer that has the dubious distinction of being among the worst flop movies in modern day Bollywood is the 2018 film Thugs of Hindostan. Also starring Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif, the 220 crore budget of the film made it one of the most expensive ever. With a highly build up anticipation and being set in a spectacle that defined grandeur, Thugs of Hindostan failed to deliver where it mattered the most. Despite close to decent box office openings, the film failed to maintain steam. With negative critical reviews as well as unfavourable word of mouth publicity, Thugs of Hindostan emerged to be the thug when it came to delivering cinematic brilliance.

The highest budget Indian film ever at that time when it released in 1993, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raj was a dismal failure. Even the celebrated pairing of Anil Kapoor and Sridevi could not salvage losses for the film. An extended star cast comprising Jackie Shroff, Johnny Lever and Anupam Kher similarly could not do wonders for this film which was already delayed by six years. With a box office collection of 2.7 crores in Indian rupees, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja could not recover even half its total budget. It thus sank sank as one of the biggest flop movies produced by Bollywood.

Among the many historical movies in Bollywood, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer 2001 film Asoka is also one among the greater flop outings in the industry. While the epic film based on the life of emperor Asoka managed to cause a stir through screenings in international film festivals, the box office numbers of the film remained unimpressive. The larger than life action sequences and magnificent visuals did little to make the movie an impactful one for the Indian audience even when it earned critical acclaim and commercial success internationally.

Saawariya was the film that marked the much anticipated debut of two starkids- Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Remniscient of the trademark Sanjay Leela Bhansali larger than life portrayal through cinema, Saawariya was shot on elaborate sets of an imaginary city complete with lakes, streets, shops, signages and a clock tower. But despite such elaborate presentation and equally massive publicity, the 2007 romantic saga failed to create much of an impact. In fact Saawariya had to settle on becoming one of the greatest flop movies of Bollywood.

An ensemble star cast resplendent in names that you would think would be a guarantee recipe for success and yet Kalank failed to be much of a wave in the ocean when it released in 2019. With some of the biggest names of Bollywood like Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan in the ranks, the period drama had been one of the much talked about movies of the year. Also a 5300 screen opening worldwide that made it the widest Bollywood release sure should have further helped its cause. Instead, Kalank ended up becoming a box office failure. Not its staggering sets nor its extravagant emotion quotient could swaddle the high flying film into success. Made on a budget of a whopping 150 crores, all Kalank could manage to collect was something a little over 70 crores, placing it firmly among Bollywood flops.

Another Ranbir Kapoor starrer that finds way in our list of Bollywood flop movies is the 2013 film Besharam. The film was declared a flop, despite somehow managing to generate revenue just enough to cover its budget. Even with a strong first day opening, Besharam failed to pick pace owing to negative critic reviews.
